Kea Health

A US quit-smoking retailer with free guidance from its pharmacists, and a WooCommerce store that slowed down whenever traffic surged. We rebuilt it as a headless Shopify store, with a SvelteKit storefront in front and Sanity for content, then merged a second store into it.

Before

A store that couldn't keep up with demand.

Kea Health sells nicotine replacement products, with free guidance from its pharmacists for people trying to quit. Much of its traffic arrives in bursts. Its store, built on WooCommerce (a shop plugin for WordPress), slowed to a crawl and lost sales whenever a burst came. They asked for a store that stays fast when busy, sells subscriptions as well as one-off orders, and lets the team publish advice without a developer.

What we built · 01

A custom storefront on Shopify, with accounts and subscriptions.

Shopify runs the catalogue, the cart and the checkout. In front of it, a storefront we built with SvelteKit shows category and product pages from live stock. Customers log in with Shopify's own accounts, buy once or subscribe through Shopify's selling plans, and read verified reviews pulled in from Judge.me. Klaviyo handles the newsletter and the follow-up emails. A product-finder quiz helps first-time quitters find the right product, and support requests go to Gorgias, their support inbox. Pages and the advice library are kept in Sanity, the editor the team writes in, with 26 building blocks they arrange themselves.

Two stores became one.

Kea Health also ran a second store, Quit Smoking Direct, on its own web address. We merged it into the main store. Redirects send visitors from the second store's old addresses, and from the old WooCommerce pages for products, categories, tags and the blog, to the right new page. Old links from either store still land somewhere useful. The advice library has since grown past a hundred articles, published by the team.

A family business for fifty years, now shipping nationwide.

Kea Health started as a local family business more than fifty years ago. It now ships nicotine replacement products across the United States, and its pharmacists give free, judgement-free guidance to anyone trying to quit. As of September 2026, the store runs on what we built, hosted on Cloudflare. Its sitemap, the page list search engines read, holds about 50 product pages and more than a hundred advice articles, and the team publishes without us.

Shopify holds the products, orders, subscriptions and checkout in Kea Health's own account. The storefront, the Sanity editor and the Cloudflare hosting are theirs too.
