Karis Life

A Sydney mobility-aids retailer and NDIS provider whose store fell over when the traffic came. We rebuilt it as a headless Shopify store: SvelteKit in front, Shopify for products, checkout and customer accounts, Sanity for everything the team edits.

Before

A store people depend on, going down when it mattered.

Karis Life sells mobility scooters, wheelchairs, walkers and home-care equipment from a showroom in Hornsby and online, to people who often cannot simply go elsewhere. Their WooCommerce store crashed under load and dropped orders, and every fix needed a developer. The brief: a store that stays up, loads fast on a phone, and that the team can change without calling anyone.

Shopify behind, SvelteKit in front.

Shopify holds the catalogue, the cart and the checkout, and customers sign in through Shopify's own accounts. In front of it sits a SvelteKit storefront: category and product pages rendered on the server from Shopify's live stock, so prices and availability are never stale; a cart of our own that hands over to Shopify checkout in one step; and a favourites list any visitor can build and share by link, useful when a carer or an occupational therapist picks equipment for someone else.

Every old product address, 176 of them, redirects to its new home.

What we built · 02

Edited from a browser, indexed the day it changes.

Pages, guides, seminars and the NDIS section live in Sanity, with a page builder of 32 modules the team assembles themselves and previews before publishing. The newsletter form and the showroom map need no plugin. The sitemap is built from Shopify's live product list, so a new product is indexable the day it is added.

Karis Life today

Forty years of getting people moving.

Karis Life began as Comfort Discovered in 1984 and has been an NDIS-registered provider since 2013, trading under its current name since the rebrand. From Hornsby it supplies mobility scooters, wheelchairs, walkers and home-care equipment across Sydney, and runs CPD seminars for the therapists who prescribe them. As of September 2026 the store still runs on the build above, with ten shop categories and a growing library of guides published by the team.

Shopify runs products, orders and checkout in Karis Life's own account. The storefront code, the Sanity studio and the hosting are theirs; none of it needs us to stay up.
