# Can Claude run your Google Ads?

https://croissantbaguette.com.au/guides/can-claude-run-your-google-ads/

Google's Ads connector for Claude is read-only, Meta's can edit ads, and Google bars hosted middlemen. What an AI can safely run, the limits and the costs.

## Can Claude run your Google Ads?

Partly. Claude can read an account and report on it today through Google's own connector, which cannot change anything. Changes need the Google Ads API, Meta's ads connector can already edit campaigns, and Google now bars hosted middlemen. What an AI can safely do in an ad account, and the limits that have to sit outside it.

**Quick answer**

- **Google's connector** read-only, version 0.0.5
- **Meta's connector** edits campaigns, open beta
- **Hosted middlemen** barred by Google, 31 Aug 2026
- **Developer token** not needed since 9 Sep 2026
- **AI ad tools** from about US$23 a month
- **Spend limits** in code the AI cannot change

From Google's and Meta's own pages, read on 22 October 2026.

## It can read your account today. Changing it is a different job.

Google's official Google Ads MCP server, the connector that lets Claude or another AI assistant query an account, is read-only. Version 0.0.5, released on 9 October 2026, lists the accounts you can reach and runs reports, and Google's own guide says it cannot modify bids, pause campaigns or create assets. Write tools are planned, with no date. Changes go through the Google Ads API itself. Since 9 September 2026 that needs no developer token, only a Google Cloud project with Explorer access, which Google grants automatically in most cases. Meta went further. Since 29 April 2026 it hosts an ads connector, in open beta, that can create and edit campaigns, ad sets and ads, with rules an admin can set to limit what an agent may change, budgets included. What you may not use is a middleman. Google's developer policy of 31 August 2026 bars third-party hosted services, MCP servers included, that only pass Google Ads access through to other businesses; your own use, and open-source tools you run with your own credentials, are allowed. Our own Google Ads have been run this way since October 2026: Claude reads the account every morning and makes the small fixes, a separate guard with no AI enforces the spending limits every six hours, and nothing that adds spend happens without a person's yes. The limits matter more than the model.

## Six ways to put AI on an ad account, priced.

From the AI already inside Google Ads to a system built for your account. Prices are per month unless marked, and none of them includes the ad spend itself.

- **Google's own AI, inside the account** $0 AI Max and Performance Max decide where your ads show, and Ask Advisor, Google's assistant in Google Ads, suggests changes and makes them once you approve. Search campaigns on two older settings were moved to AI Max during September 2026. — Google, inside the budget you set. You approve Advisor's changes.
- **[Claude with Google's read-only connector](https://developers.google.com/google-ads/api/docs/developer-toolkit/mcp-server)** your Claude plan Reports, questions and audits in plain English, from your own Google Cloud project. It cannot change anything, which makes it the safest way to start. — You, in Google Ads, after reading what it found.
- **A connector service** US$23–99 Tools that link Claude or ChatGPT to your ad accounts, several with a free tier. Ask how they meet Google's August 2026 policy before you connect a live account. — Depends on the tool. Several ask you to confirm each change.
- **A management suite with an AI link** US$129–299 Rules, alerts and bulk changes for one account or many, now with a link to Claude or ChatGPT. Prices rise with ad spend, to about US$960 a month. — You, through the suite's own approvals.
- **An agency** A$590–1,250 Australian agencies that publish prices start at about this much a month to manage one account, with a median of about A$995 across the 31 price lists we read in October 2026. — The agency, within what you agree in writing.
- **A system built for your account** from $8,000 once Claude on a schedule, rules it cannot change, a guard that enforces the limits, and a short report each morning with one yes-or-no question. It is how our own ads are run. — The system does the daily work. A person approves anything that adds spend.

Third-party tool prices in US dollars from each vendor's own page on 22 October 2026, left unnamed; AI tools also need your Claude or ChatGPT plan. The agency range is the middle half of the 31 Australian entry prices we read on 21 October 2026. Our build excludes GST.

## What we let an AI do in our own account.

- **Read the account** Spend, searches, leads and what each visitor did on the site, from Google Ads and Google Analytics. | Every morning, before anything else, and the start of every change.
- **Block junk searches** Adds a word to the negative list when it shows up in searches from the wrong people. | Allowed when the word appears in two or more bad searches, and never when it also appears in a good one.
- **Pause a keyword** Stops a keyword that keeps costing money without results. | Allowed after a set spend with no lead, when its searches are poor or the visitors it brings leave without reading.
- **Change bids** Moves the most a campaign will pay for a click. | Allowed within a small range either way, when the numbers say so.
- **Fix a rejected ad** Rewrites an ad Google has disapproved. | Allowed, inside our copy rules. New ads wait for a person.
- **Raise a budget or start a campaign** Anything that adds spend. | Never. It becomes the morning report's yes-or-no question.
- **Spend past the limit** Keep going after the monthly cap, or after a run of spend with no lead. | It cannot. A separate guard with no AI pauses the ads every time a limit is reached.

Let the AI do the daily reading and the small fixes, and keep every decision that adds spend with a person.

## Five steps before an AI touches a live account.

- **Start read-only.** Google's connector in your own Claude, for reports and questions. It cannot change anything, so the worst it can do is be wrong.
- **Put the limits outside the AI.** A budget cap in Google Ads and a loss limit in code the AI cannot edit, because an assistant may call a connector's tools without asking first.
- **Write down what it may change, and by how much.** Junk words, a paused keyword, a bid within a range. Anything not on the list becomes a question for a person.
- **Ask for one short report a day.** Spend, clicks, leads, what changed and why, in plain English, with at most one yes-or-no question.
- **Read Google's change history each week.** Changes made through the API appear there, marked as the API or the tool that made them, and the history goes back two years.

## Why the rules came first.

- **7% of an old campaign's spend reached people hiring** — March to May 2026, before the system
- **44% went on people building a website themselves** — the same campaign, by its search terms
- **7:07 am Claude reads the account** — every day, Sydney time
- **6 hours between the guard's checks** — with no AI in it

Our own Google Ads account, run by Claude on a schedule since 7 October 2026. The two percentages come from the search terms Google reported for the campaign we ran from March to May 2026, before the rules and the guard existed. Searches like those are what the guard now blocks.

## Who sets up AI on ad accounts in Australia, and what to ask them.

- **Whose Google Cloud project it uses.** Google's August 2026 policy expects your own, or a tool that can explain in writing how it complies.
- **What it may change without asking.** A written list with limits. Anything that is not on it should wait for a person.
- **Where the spending limits live.** In settings or code the AI cannot edit, not in the instructions it is given.
- **What you see every day.** A short report in plain English, and Google's change history showing every change the tool made.
- **How you take the account back.** Google's developer policy gives a client three business days to regain sole control. Ask for it in writing anyway.
- **We do.** Croissant & Baguette is a small studio with a network of Australian specialists. Our own Google Ads are run by Claude on a schedule, with a separate guard holding the limits, and we build the same kind of system for other jobs. — Built in Australia, never offshored.

## What we charge.

**Why the limits cost more than the AI** Because the AI is the easy part. A model can read an account and suggest changes for cents a day. The work is deciding what it may do alone, putting the limits where it cannot reach them, and keeping the daily report short enough that someone reads it. That is most of what a build costs, and all of what keeps the money safe.

- **Automation Opportunity Assessment** free (one meeting · a written proposal, priced)
- **Automation build** from $8,000 (one process end to end, or an AI app · 12 months of bug fixes)
- **Claude & ChatGPT connector** from $1,500 (your own Claude or ChatGPT, connected to your software)
- **Managed** from $250/month (monitoring, fixes, monthly report · changes quoted)

What moves a build within those ranges:

- how many accounts and ad networks it reads and changes
- what it may change on its own, and the limits around each change
- the data it reads beside the ads, such as analytics, the CRM or the site
- who receives the daily report and answers its questions
- whether changes need an approval screen rather than a reply

Indicative. Fixed price after the free assessment. Ad spend goes to Google or Meta, not to us.

## Ask away.

Seven things people ask about AI and ad accounts. Still one missing? [Ask us](https://croissantbaguette.com.au/contact/).

- **Is there an official Google Ads MCP server?** Yes. Google released it as open source on 7 October 2025, and version 0.0.5 came out on 9 October 2026. It is read-only: it lists the accounts you can reach, runs reports in Google's query language and describes the data, but it cannot change a bid, pause a campaign or create an ad. Google says write tools are planned, without a date. You run it from your own Google Cloud project.
- **Can Claude make changes in Google Ads?** Not through Google's connector, which only reads. Changes go through the Google Ads API, which needs a Google Cloud project with Explorer access or higher; Explorer is granted automatically in most cases and allows 2,880 operations a day on a live account. Since 9 September 2026 no developer token is needed. Whatever makes the changes should work inside written limits, because an assistant may call a tool without asking first.
- **Are third-party Google Ads connectors allowed?** Some are, and Google's wording decides which. Its developer policy, updated on 31 August 2026, prohibits third-party hosted MCP servers, proxies and similar services that only re-expose Google Ads to other businesses, and requires agencies and advertisers to use their own Google Cloud project instead. Your own use is allowed, and so are open-source tools you run with your own credentials. Ask a connector how it complies before linking a live account.
- **Can ChatGPT manage Google Ads?** Not through anything from Google: neither ChatGPT's app directory nor Claude's connector directory had a Google Ads connector made by Google on 22 October 2026, though third-party ones exist. To add your own, ChatGPT gives full MCP support on its Business and Enterprise plans, and Pro can connect one with read-only access. Claude allows custom connectors on every plan, with one on the Free plan.
- **Is there a Meta Ads MCP server?** Yes, and unlike Google's, Meta hosts it. Meta's ads AI connectors, launched on 29 April 2026 and in open beta, include an MCP server at mcp.facebook.com/ads that can create and edit campaigns, ad sets and ads, run reports and check tracking. Since July 2026, business portfolio admins can set rules that limit what an AI agent may do, such as changing budgets.
- **Should I let AI Max run my Search campaigns?** Test it rather than accept it. Google moved Search campaigns on campaign-level broad match or automatically created assets to AI Max during September 2026, and Dynamic Search Ads follow from 1 to 28 February 2027. Google reports 14% more conversions for advertisers outside retail who switch AI Max on, from its own 2025 data. Treat that as a claim to test against your own leads, not a promise.
- **Who pays if an AI tool wastes ad spend?** You do. Google's Australian advertising terms make the advertiser solely responsible for its use of the programs, and for the targets and ads, even those made with Google's own assistive features. Clicks Google judges invalid are not charged, late finds are credited automatically, and you can ask for an investigation within 60 days. Everything else is spend you approved, which is why the limits belong in code.
